$30 Pool

It’s 1:55 P.M. on a Sunday and I’m at home in our backyard writing into my Midori notebook.

Originally, I was trying to write this entry into my phone but have decided I wanted to put pen to paper. It makes me feel closer to the work.

Also, even though I’m writing with a heavy, black, Rotring mechanical pencil that has a built-in eraser–It’s harder to edit as I go–which is a good thing, I think, because it forces me to just keep writing.

I’ll probably digitise this entry and store it on my website for archival purposes but for now I’ll enjoy the physical act of inscribing lead into a blank piece of paper.

I just went for a swim in the $30 inflatable pool Dad setup in our backyard. It’s much quieter out here than at the beach. I like that.

I was reading a book called You Are Not A Gadget by Jaron Lanier–hence why I’ve probably been inspired to put down my device and pivot to pencil.

My Dad’s currently taking clothes down that are hanging above my head. I can hear a helicopter above the both of us going who knows where.

I might get back in the pool soon, my back’s starting to heat up.

I wanted to find some deeper meaning or underlying message in this entry but I think this is all it is–an entry on a day that I probably would’ve forgotten unless I took the fifteen minutes it took me to write this down.

Reading over this does make me want to pack both this notebook and mechanical pencil with me wherever I go to write down whatever ideas come to me.

I genuinely wouldn’t mind having this book get beat up, torn, wet, scribbled in, stained, or literally any other adjective that describes the simple act of being used–because maybe that’s the idea I’m trying to get at with this entry. Use the moments you have even if it’s just a lazy Sunday lounging outside by your $30 inflatable pool.
