From Prayers to Prompts
AI is the new God
Now before you get annoyed the statment above, I want to preface this by saying I don’t actually think this is a good thing. I’m just stating how I see things trending.
Let me explain…
Prior to the internet, if you had a problem, something you were stuck on, or were going through a tumultuous time in your life, you would probably lean on family, friends, or perhaps prayer.
You might close your eyes and try to communicate with whatever you defined as your higher power.
This changed the moment The Internet arrived and people began Googling, The Answers.
People were soon directed to Quora and Reddit forums taking advice from strangers. And while I think there’s huge merit to shared online discussion, I still think it’s important to have discernment when it comes to what info you’re bothing letting in and keeping out of your life.
Fast forward a decade and we’ve now got AI chatbots that have absorbed every single piece of online discourse, which is where things get concering.
No longer do you need to wait for answers because they’re served to you in seconds on a digital platter, tailored specifically to you.
Now, if you have a problem, all you need to do is open up your AI of choice and begin chatting away to your artificial god.
And while most people wouldn’t even consider themselves to be doing anything like this. People are completely opening up, bringing relationships, drama, confessions, and major life decisions into the chat to consult the algorithim on what they should do.
I know this, because I’ve done it, and I personally know lots of other people who also do it.
Embarrassingly, It’s also one of the reasons I chose to end my past relationship.
Because AI told me to.
Which in hindsight sounds INSANELY FUCKED, and you’re lacking alot more context, but this is unfortunately the new reality, and I want to be as truthful as possible with my writing since AI is only going to become even more intertwined with our lives as time goes on.
But this is where it gets dangerous…
AI doesn’t know you. It only knows what you tell it, and since we’re usually biased with our views, it’s very easy to create echo chambers that only amplify our existing ideas.
Not to mention but AI is already becoming the new decision maker in our lives when it comes to hiring for jobs, screening resumes, planning holidays, and soon to be approving loans for that house you’ve always dreamt of buying.
However, I’m becoming very wary of where this road goes. Hence why I’ve checked myself and taken a step back from these AI tools, and instead started to listen less to the algorithim, and take my questions elsewhere.
And finally, before I end this I’d like to pose a question to you.
How much faith should we be putting in the machine?
