The Four Agreements

Around the time I finished high school a stumbled upon a great book called The Four Agreements. It’s a great book that’s super short and helps with living a great life. The four principles could be seen as common sense and are often much harder to actually embody instead of just read. But I thought I’d attach a short summary of The Four Agreements I randomly found this week to share with everyone.

Current Favourite YouTube Channel

If you’re in anyway like me you would remember Casey Neistat’s era of daily vlogging on YouTube. He’s been one of my biggest inspirations as an artist/creator and I admire all the qualities he embodies.

However as I dove deeper into Casey and his influences I’d discovered his older brother Van Neistat. Who is equally if not more talented then Casey. Lately I’ve been binging through his content on his YouTube channel and have fallen in love with The Spirited Man aesthetic (you will come to learn what I’m talking about if you check out his channel")

Van was the second ever person I’ve ever subscribed to on Patreon after Channel 5, my favourite contemporary news platform. I normally only pay creators I really love a small subscription and he is one of them.

His content is centred around short video essays that cover topics like filmmaking, travel, fixing things, using your hands and creativity. Feel free to check out one of my favourite videos below from Van if your interested.

New advice to myself

About a month ago I wrote out this short list of reminders which are somewhat similar to The Four Agreements at the top of this email. But I thought I’d like to share my mindset thats helping me to keep going with everyone here.

  1. Don’t let yourself down
  2. Take it day by day
  3. Do the work
  4. Give yourself direction
  5. It’s going to be hard but do it anyway
  6. Your going to want to quit but keep doing
  7. Trust yourself
  8. Let go of external expectations
  9. Protect your energy
  10. Impress yourself
  11. Don’t take it personal
