JETS JOURNAL - #074
March 25, 2025
Hi All!
Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.
First vlog in 10 months
It’s almost been a year since my last video on YouTube. However, last weekend I felt an urge to go out and record, I hope you enjoy.
Mend over end
The other day my favourite pair of denim shorts broke, and instead of throwing them away, I fixed them myself. I found some scrap denim and sewed it into the shorts with red stitches, which is something you probably shouldn’t do if you want to hide the repair job.

However, to me, I put pride in these stitches, and want to show them off, because I believe this gives the clothing more character. It shows it’s been lived in and loved. It’s also why I love the Japanese concept Kintsugi, which is the art of repairing things like plates and teacups with gold, extenuating it’s flaws, and turning them into something of beauty.

So, with that being said, show off your stitches.
Whats real will stay
If you take all of your memories, friends, connections, interests and pour them into the strainer of life and give it a big shake. What you will often find is, what’s real will stay, and what’s fleeting will fall out from the bottom.
Now, this isn’t to say what’s ephemeral has no inherent value, because it does. It’s just that what has mass, meaning and value, will pass through the great filter of time. So let go of the fickle, and hold on to what’s real.
There is a caveat to this though, eventually time catches up, even to things of substance.
Ugliness theory
Keeping on the topic of flaws, I want to share something I found interesting with you.
“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.” -Brian Eno
Email hygiene
Alright, enough of that, time for something practical.
I’ve recently moved from Gmail to Fastmail and migrated all my emails to my new jetwilliams.com domain. Now, the great thing about using my own domain as an email address paired with Fastmail, is because it lets me make as many addresses as I want, and create filters, and folders to better organise my inbox.
For example, I now have a personal email that looks like j@jetwilliams.com (not the actual email) which is for communication for people close to me. I’ve also setup an email accounts@jetwilliams.com (once again not the actual email for privacy and security) which I’ve connected to all my accounts online, so my personal inbox stays clean and free of any annoying updates.
You could also send me an email to literaly anything@jetwilliams.com and it will always be delivered to my catch-all inbox. So even if you emailed any of the addresses above, or misspelled my real address, I would still receive all of your messages.
If this sounds at all interesting to you, I’d urge you to purchase yourname.com or any alteration of it if your name is taken, and setup your own email address under your domain.
If you need any help with this reach out, as I’d be more than happy to help.
Hope everyone enjoys their week.
Love,
Jet Williams
