JETS JOURNAL - #076

April 8, 2025

Hi All!

Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.

Keeping moments for me

I love taking photos, recording videos, and writing, because it helps me preserve moments in time.

It’s how I document my life, and create meaning from my experiances.

However, there are some moments that are so great, I have no desire trying to capture, or explain them at all, and last weekend, I got to have one of those moments.

There is nothing else I need to say on this because this moment is for me.

There’s a great scene from Walter Mitty that really captures the feeling I’m trying to express about keeping some things solely for yourself.

Also, if you haven’t seen The Secret life Of Walter Mitty, I’d really recommend watching it if your in the mood for a feel good film. It makes me so happy everytime I watch it.

Let them pass

Whenever I’m running and someone overtakes me, the competitive side in me is like, who the fuck do you think you are? you’re not going to over take me, so I run back in front and take the lead.

While other times, when I’m exhausted and let them pass, a small piece of me feels like that stranger is better than me, and I’m losing this nonexistant race I’ve constructed in my head.

Lately though, I’ve started reminding myself in these moments that I don’t know where these people started their run, I don’t know how far their going, and I don’t know how long they’ve been running for.

And while it’s good to feel like your ahead, and it hurts to feel like your behind, the reality is there are so many other factors we don’t see when we compare ourselves to others around us.

So personally, I’ve really been trying to shift from extrinsic to intrinstic motivation, and to the desire not to outcompete strangers, but to impress myself, because there is so much we don’t know, that makes these comparison games irrelevant.

Also, If you haven’t already put two and two together, I’m not just talking about running.

Tumblr is back

I grew up on Tumblr.

It’s where I developed my taste, and fell in love with photography.

However, over the years it’s seemed to lose relevance with the rise of Instagram, Pinterest, and short form content.

Thankfully though, Tumblr is quietly ticking along, attracting some of the most creative people on the internet, and has become somewhat of a secret creative oasis.

People on Tumblr just dump whatever photos they want, and treat it as a visual diary, not an online identity where every post needs to be perfectly curated for your feed.

I’ve setup a few different blogs in a similar way to how I use Pinterest to create moodboards, and have even made a secret photo diary I will never share again with you after today.

I would really recomend making an account and checking it out, especially if your looking for things on the internet of higher taste than what mainstream social media is currently providing.

China is so up

For years China has been seen as the worlds manufacturer.

Typically, atleast to us westerners, it’s where cheap low quality goods are made.

However, China is smashing through these old stereotypes, and reinventing itself as one of the new innovation hubs of the world.

For example, Chinese regulators have recently granted the country’s first approvals for two companies to operate autonomous flying taxis.

It’s very inspiring seeing how China has turned itself around over the past couple decades, and is becoming one of the worlds new superpowers.

I’m very interested in learning more about the country, and one day visiting.

Hope everyone enjoys their week.
