JETS JOURNAL - #085

June 10, 2025

Hi All!

Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.

My new journal

As a gift to myself for finishing the third draft of my book, I bought a $400 Italian-made leather journal cover. Which I know sounds expensive, and maybe even a little excessive, but I rarely buy nice things for myself, so it was nice to finally treat myself.

I now keep my journal, idea book, pocket notebook and pens, all under the one cover. It still has the intoxicating leathery smell, which I can’t stop sniffing.

Sounds weird as fuck, I know. But I think I got a thing for my olfactory senses.

Anyway, I love how fat it looks, and the fact the leather is going to age so nicely over the next few years.

Having hobbies does not equal autism

I was at a cafe the on the weekend when I overheard a conversation from group of friends calling another friend autistic. I could tell this was because the autistic friend clearly had interests the rest of the group couldn’t quite understand.

Seeing this not only in real life but online, really frustrates me because I’ve also had my intense passion for varying things, also be mistaken for autism.

It’s annoying when someone with any kind of hobby, passion, or ability to focus their attention on anything longer than a sixty-second TikTok, is often labelled as neurodivergent, or a cracked out autist, depending on where you sit on the political correctness scale.

It’s as if hobbies and passions nowadays are so uncommon that people have to pathologize them to understand something so fundamental about being alive.

Learning to look

I love watching life when I’m driving, riding, walking or running.

When I see two people out together in public, and they’re all over one another, but are too enamoured to care about what anyone thinks of their displays of affection, because their so blissfully lost in their own world, I smile.

Not just at that but at people talking to their dogs as if they understood what they are saying, little kids looking up at the world in awe, or at two best friends wearing bright pink wigs, ready for wherever the night takes them.

There is literally always something to see.

Learning to look is so fun.

Thank you

I just wanted to take a quick moment thank everyone who reached out after I shared that feedback from the publisher last week. A lot of you requested to read the book, and were super excited to dive into the story that was deemed too risky for traditional publishers.

However, I’ve had to limit the amount of people I give early copies of my book to, as it still is a work in progress, and I really want your experience to be as enjoyable as possible, when you do finally get a copy.

So once again, thank you for being patient. It’s coming.

Also to the multiple people who have approached me in the city to show me love. Thank you. Huge shoutout to Zach for lunch the other day, and also to Coop for the great conversation on culture, and finally, the kid with red hair on the tram! Sorry I forgot your name, but please focus on your last year of school and try stay out of trouble lol.

Melbourne

I’m flying down to Melbourne this weekend to check out the city. I will most likely be doing what I do here in Sydney, and going to museums, cinemas, markets, book stores, you know the energy. But nonetheless, I’m still excited to take a well-earned break. Especially because Melbourne is a place that’s so close to home but it feels like I’m still going out and travelling. So, If anyone has any recommendations, or people you think I should connect with down there, please reach out.

Hope everyone enjoys their week.

Love,

Jet Williams
