Hi All!
Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.
From novel to screenplay…
So… You know how I’ve been writing my novel? Yeah, well after I finished my latest draft, I thought I’d try turning the book into a screenplay. And now, after two weeks of writing every day, I have a full, feature length script, that’s somewhat ready to go into production or get picked up by a studio.
I thought now was the best time to do this because the story is still so fresh in my mind.
It was a really fun experiance cutting the story to it’s most essential parts, and figuring out how to convey the story visually.
Also, suprisingly even after writing three drafts of the novel, and now a first draft of a screenplay, my excitement for the story has yet to dwindle, and if anything it has significantly grown.
I’d say I’m suprised at how I’ve been able to stay engaged with the same story for almost close to a year but I’m genuinely not suprised, as this is a story I’ve been wanting to tell for close to a decade.
It’s just that it’s only now, that I’ve finally become ready as a storyteller to do it justice.
I’m still working on finding a publisher for the book but while I do that, I’ll also be getting the script into the hands of the right people.
I’m very excited, and will continue to share my progress with how I will make this happen. In the meantime, my team in India is scraping hundreds of contact details for studio executives, fund managers, and backers.

Japanese stationery
I love stationery and am always buying new pens, notebooks, tools and other random utensils, and recently, I discovered two Japanese brands I’d love to share with you.
This company makes high quality steel toolboxes. I recently bought a small one that I’ve turned into my pencil case / storage for miscellaneous items. They come in a range of colours, and styles but the thing I love most is the build quality. They are so heavy, and the design itself is so effortlessly elegant.
Check out mine below:

Penco on the other hand specialises in a wide range of products. They make pens, notebooks, pouches, tape dispensers, storage containers, measuring tapes, and more. I’d describe their aesthetic as bold, utilitarian. It doesn’t scream for attention but still manages to pull you in.
You could look at their website but I’d urge you to feel their products in person, (I’ve found them to be stocked at most stationery stores) and then you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Harmony Korine
My latest creative inspiration is Harmony Korine, the skateboarder turned filmmaker that created Kids, Gummo, and Spring Breakers.
I could try explaining his huge body of work to you but I’m not going to do that, because I’ll do it a huge disservice.
So, all I’ll say is that I find it inspiring that even at 52 he is still experimenting and not afraid to take risks with his art. I appreciate that he’s trying new ways to tell stories with films like Baby Invasion (dark web, brain rot film), and Aggro Dr1ft (shot entirely on thermal cameras).
However, to give you a glimpse into the Harmony Korine iceberg I’d suggest you watch this short video from Vice, and of course Gummo, if you haven’t already seen it.
Also, his Boiler Room set is insane.
And finally, his music video he directed for Bladee and Yung Lean is one of the weirdest, yet most of our time videos I’ve seen. So, If you want to see yakuza vs leprechauns, and black midgets in witches masks, check it out for yourself.
Software I’ve been using lately
If your into music. Like really into it, and enjoy listening to and collecting leaks, I’d recomend you check out Soulseek. To keep it simple, it’s kind of like Limewire (if you rememeber that) but just for music. And although I’ve only recently discovered the app, I’ve already managed to resurface hundreds of songs I thought I’d lost.
This is what I’ve been using to format my book. It’s super simple and makes it easy to export PDFs ready for print. However, I have noticed that it can be buggy at times, and is often slow to load mockups.
This is what I used to write my screenplay. Using Final Draft makes it really easy to get all the correct formatting with the dialogue, parenthesis, and spacing. Would highly recommend if you want to get into screenwriting.
Hope everyone enjoys their week.
Love,
Jet Williams
