JETS JOURNAL - #090
July 15, 2025
Hi All!
Here is your weekly round up of what I’m pondering and exploring. Feel free to forward along to a friend if you think they might enjoy.
Falling in love, again.
If you couldn’t already tell, writing my first novel, reignited my love for photography. This isn’t because the story is just about taking photos, but because it’s about everything else in and around getting the shot.
It’s the people you meet, the places you go, the silly side quests, and most importantly, it’s how the camera literally reframes your way of looking at the world.
Because for me, having a camera turns the ordinary into the extrordinary, and as I’ve said many times before, I can’t wait for you to finally get to read my book, which I will be announcing the release date of very soon.
However, it genuinely feels like I’m falling in love with seeing the world again, for the first time in a long time. And I really hope that through my work, I can help other people look at the world a little differently.
Cringe is just the entry fee
Below is one of the best videos I’ve ever seen on the internet about the inner struggles that comes with pursuing something your passionate about and expressing yourself, in todays online world.
It’s only five minutes long, so if you have the time, I’d really recomend watching it. Also, shoutout to JD for sharing this with me.
Photography iceberg
Staying on the subject of photography, I recently found a great video I found genuinely entertaining to watch.
The video is an almost half-an-hour long, deep-dive into the stories behind some of the worlds most iconic photos over the course of history.
Selling fulfillment
Here’s a quote from a book I read last week called, The Way of Seeing by John Berger.
“The spectator-buyer is meant to envy herself as she will become if she buys the product. She is meant to imagine herself transformed by the product into an object of envy for others, an envy which will then justify her loving herself. One could put this another way: the publicity image steals her love of herself as she is, and offers it back to her for the price of the product.
The book was a very interesting, short read about perception.
It’s split into a few different short essays about how we see and interact with the world.
I thought the quote above was an interesting way of thinking about how advertising works to lure us in to spend our hard earned dollars, on hopefully, what we believe is fulfillment.
Songs I’ve been listening to
I don’t often share the music I’m listening to but here are the most recent songs that I’ve been replaying.
The outro starting at 2:50 on New Slaves by Kanye West
Deftones - my mind is a mountain
Hope everyone enjoys their week.
Love,
Jet Williams
